Pass the eggs, flour, and Chick Corea

We are in the midst of getting new carpet installed so of course we have to make sure all of the furniture is readily movable including my enormous shelf of CDs. But where to put them all after we emptied the shelf? The easiest location was the kitchen. When you place all of your CDs next to your sink it really puts in perspective just how many you have. Dig:

Unfortunately when the guys came to install the carpet this morning they measured the floor and discovered the salesman who had previously measured it and gave us the estimate had shorted the order by over 10 ft. Naturally we don't have to pay any more for the extra carpet but our house is turned upside-down. Carrie made us hook the TV back up though as the opening ceremony for the Olympics is tonight and "not watching the Olympics is un-American" in her words. But it will be nice to get our stereo out of the bathroom.

That's a spectacular number of cd's. I'm proud of you.

You might want to consider transitioning to a more space efficient storage system---I think you've seen my collection stored in DiscSox; about 1000 discs with liners and inserts fit onto two shelves that together represent about 18" X 30". And the public library loves my donations of the jewel cases...

It gets pricey so its a good idea to do it gradually. But I am SO glad to have done it.

I'm not sure that not watching the Olympics is unAmerican but I was talked into watching the opening ceremonies by my own spouse and I'm totally glad I did. Flipping crazy awesome.

I didn't see any Bette Midler or Show Tunes...I thought you were supposed to have a diverse collection. I do dig the Five Finger Death Punch and the Split Wet Beaver collection. Wish was a great album. And who can go wrong with Exile in Guyville?

I'm tired and the Opening Ceremonies are still going like the energizer bunny. Looking forward to seeing some great athletes competing in HD!!

Imagine how many I'd have if I owned Judas Priest's entire catalougue?

The ceremony started an hour and a half ago and I'm already bored.

That's quite the collection there... Mine looks like a little tiny speck of dust compared to that. Maybe you ought to invest in a good storage system. Of course, then you have to worry about alphabetizing things....

alpha, by genre, KSM. No rookies here.

Totally, alphabetical by genre is the way to go.

I buy so much music digitally that I think my nice big shelves will last for quite a long time, I don't think I need a storage system.

I guess this could be its own post: I just can't buy an entire digitally. So long as there is hard media to be purchased, that's what I want. Despite my elaborate digital maintenance, I still cringe when I think of the loss should my pc and backups go down....

besides--I completely want uncompressed .wav files for my money... maybe this is one of the bugaboos that will illuminate today's "generation gap". I wonder what Nick Hornby would say about it.

I've never been a huge audiophile so compressed files don't bug me. If I didn't buy so damn much music then I'd probably go CDs all the way.

Plus I get impatient and instant access is a plus.

The school is Bard College. If you don't know it, google it.

M just finished burning all our cds to flak files - Kathy, I bet you and he could have a lively conversation about uncompressed uh, whaddayacallits.

I just read a good article on buying digital music in Home Entertainment July/August issue page 26 - "hifi Tunes" and page 64 "downloads on the up and up." They go into detail about the compression of music and which sites have "better quality" such as MusicGiants and iTrax. The article is also on the website at hemagazine.com.

I happen to celebrate Priest's entire catalougue. Some great, some not so much. Newest epic Nostradamus is mostly not so much.
