What was a scarier display of nationalism?

China's opening ceremony for the Olympics or John McCain's speech at the RNC?

OK, I will bite--I am sure you are dying to share. Explain to me what was so "scary" about the speech. After watching far more of both conventions than I intended, that is not the conclusion I drew. Explain it to this country bumpkin.

dude, you've explained to me about a hundred times what exactly your job is and I still have no clue what it is you do, you're pretty far removed from bumpkin

specifically, invoking 'The Russian Empire' and the Cold War, showing 9-11 footage, and chanting "fight! fight! fight!" at the end of his speech

overall I was particularly struck by his emphasizing "I love America!" while not introducing any concrete plan to help Americans, I got a general attitude of 'country before countrymen'

'country before countrymen' seems remarkably similar to "...ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country".

JFK and JMC aren't even in the same leage. I'm sick of him ripping him off. He even said we were all Georgains after the invasion like JFK said he was a Berliner. Anyone who gets all warm and fuzzy with nostaigia from hearing these references needs to take a cold shower.

Lyman, I saw this and thought you might get a kick out of it.

And Don, that's actually something I came up with not something he said directly. I should be running a campaign!
